General Information
What is happening?

In May 2022, AMN announced The AMN Caring for the Caregivers Fund to support AMN Healthcare Professionals who are experiencing a catastrophic and unexpected hardship that causes undue financial stress for qualified events.

Are awarded grants taxable for recipients?

Awarded grants are non-taxable.

Do I have to repay the grant?

Approved grants do not need to be repaid to AMN. 

Eligibility
Who can apply for assistance from the fund?

Active AMN healthcare professionals must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply, be considered for, or receive a grant from the Caring for the Caregivers fund:

- Clinician must be in active status with at least one AMN brand and have worked a minimum of 180 hours, some of which must have been worked within the previous 120 days before grant application. In addition, clinician must have a work location based in the United States at the time of application submission.

- Is not an AMN corporate employee

Eligible AMN healthcare professionals are limited to receiving a maximum of one (1) grant every calendar year, regardless of grant amount. Multiple grants for the same event are not permitted.

Additional information:

- Eligible AMN healthcare professionals on a protected Leave of Absence (LOA) are eligible to apply, be considered for, and/or receive a grant from the AMN Caring for Caregivers Fund.

- Healthcare professionals who join AMN through a company acquisition become eligible when they are integrated into AMN Human Capital records and timekeeping.

What types of financial hardships qualify for grant consideration?

Different incurred costs associated with the qualified events below are open to grant consideration. 

- Serious injury/illness; Non-routine/ exceptional medical expenses  

- Natural disaster including flood, wildfire, tornado, earthquake, volcanic eruption, blizzard, drought, cyclone, hurricane, or severe storm

- Impact to primary residence including fire, flood, or other unusual life altering expense not paid by insurance

- Military deployment/ called to active duty

- Victim of a violent crime or domestic abuse

- Other qualifying emergency event or crisis (considered on a case-by- case basis)

How many grants can an eligible AMN healthcare professional be awarded?

Eligible healthcare professionals are limited to receive a maximum of one (1) grant per calendar year, regardless of grant amount. Multiple grants for the same event are not permitted.

 

Example: An eligible AMN healthcare professional experiences home damage in 2022 due to a hurricane, applies for a grant, and is approved based on the details of the event. The AMN healthcare professional cannot submit for additional grant awards for the same 2022 hurricane event. 

Are healthcare professionals on a Leave of Absence eligible to apply for assistance from the fund?

Eligible healthcare professionals on a protected Leave of Absence (LOA) are eligible to apply, be considered for, and/or receive a grant from the AMN Caring for the Caregivers Fund.

Are team members from an acquired company eligible to apply for assistance from the fund?

Healthcare professionals who join AMN through a company acquisition become active for eligibility consideration when they are integrated into AMN Human Capital records.

Eligibility time frame/hours will be calculated from their company hire date, not the date they are integrated into AMN records and timekeeping.

Application
How do I apply for assistance from the Caring for the Caregivers Assistance Fund?

Apply directly here. Before applying, you will need to create an account on the grant site using your personal email address. The site has been approved through the AMN IT Governance, Risk & Compliance process.

How long after an event occurs can I apply for grant consideration?

Applications must be submitted within 90 days after a qualifying event occurs.

What kind of documentation is needed when applying for a grant?

In general, formal receipts, invoices, insurance coverage are required.

For issues related to domestic violence or a crime, police reports or shelter reports are required.

Example: Your home was damaged during a hurricane that occurred within the last 90 days. You submitted invoices showing the cost of repairs, along with  a document from insurance indicating what portion insurance will cover. The grant request was reviewed and approved.

Example: Your family member had emergency surgery  within the last 90 days for a serious medical issue. You submitted bills from the hospital but without any indication of what insurance covered. The review team requested supporting information about insurance coverage which you submitted. After receiving the additional documentation, the grant request was reviewed and approved.

Example: A family member, but not a dependent (defined as child, spouse, domestic partner) passed away. You provided support for funeral expenses and requested reimbursement. The review team reviewed the information and declined the request as the definition of a dependent was not met.

Example: Your car suffered damage in an auto accident. You submitted bills for the accident, including insurance coverage. The review team evaluated the information and declined the request as an auto accident is not within the scope of the program.

How large of a grant can I apply for?

The minimum amount for a qualifying event that can be requested is $500 and the maximum is $5,000.

Process
Who reviews my grant application?

The AMN Caring for the Caregivers Fund is administered by The Dallas Foundation (TDF) which is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, public, nonprofit organization which has authority under IRS regulations to administer Employee Hardship and Disaster Relief Funds.

The review committee is comprised of delegates from The Dallas Foundation and AMN Healthcare.

How will I know if my grant application is approved or declined?

Once a complete application is submitted on the grant portal, it may take up to 15 business days for review, outcome, and payment for approved grant amounts to be processed. 

How are approved grant payments processed?

Approved grant payments will pay directly to the healthcare professional via ACH to the individual’s personal bank account.

ACH bank information will be requested during the application review process.
